Pit report for 1846892 - Now showing Pit no. 01

The Excavation Slow going in a bed of baked clay, the test pit was filled with a lot of stone and ironstone chippings, wholely consistent with the building of a C20 extension some one metre away. At a depth of about 400mm an Anglian Water Authority dirty water pipe was unearthed running on an EW line in the south half of the test pit. It had been noted that the southern half of the test pit was easier to dig than the northern half. Nineteen notable finds were made, of which seven have unknown positions, eight were in the less disturbed northern half and four were over the AWA pipe. Small pieces of charcoal were found scattered throughout the pit.
