Pit report for 1846892 - Now showing Pit no.
01
The selected site for a test pit is in the
back garden of an C18 thatched cottage in a quiet lane in the
village of Pytchley, Northamptonshire. The cottage is a Grade
II listed building and was built around 1719, at which time we
believe it belonged to the Manor House estate. The test pit
will be dug very close to the back of the house, just outside
of the dining room window. Prior to modernisation this window
was a door to a cottage that has been absorbed by the cottages
to either side. It is hoped to find some artefacts left by
earlier residents.
